House plants are very pretty and useful in a home. They are decorations, air purifiers, and hobbies. However, many indoor plants can be very dangerous to cats. Some plants are toxic and deadly to cats. It’s important to pick out the best plant for your home.
One of the most toxic plants are poinsettia plants. People love these at Christmas time. If you have a cat it is best to stick to artificial poinsettias. Another common plant is the peace lily. This plant contains calcium oxalate crystals that can cause diarrhea, vomiting and oral irritation. All parts of the lily are toxic to cats. Below is an image of just some of the toxic plants. Always check to see if a plant you want for your home is safe or not. Do your own research. Don’t take one persons word.

There are several plants that are not toxic and considered safe for cats.

Keep in mind that cats like to explore and get into things. You may come home and find kitty has knocked over you plant and made a big mess. Don’t get mad at kitty. Kitty is just doing what cats do. Place your plant up high or out of your cats reach. I love jade plants but they can be dangerous to cats. I keep mine in a room that is off limits to the cats. As always, do your research.
